Dear Family and Friends,
Hooray! She's finally here. Thank you for all of the calls and visits during our extended stay in the hospital. We appreciate all of your support, encouragement and kind thoughts. 5 days in the hospital got to be a long, long time.
We went in around 6:ooam on Wednesday the 15th because my water had broken. Since I had been in early Tuesday morning with the same issue they decided to keep me and induce labor. We went through about 28 hours of induced labor all day Wed into Thursday morning. However, despite all the pain and glory of labor my body wasn't able to progress past 1cm after all that time so I wasn't physically able to have our baby naturally, which was really sad for me. We went into surgery at 1pm and Maarit was born at 1:40pm on Thursday Oct. 16.
Of course after surgery they kept us until Sunday- so our first 3 days with our baby were spent in the hospital, which was difficult, but also wonderful because she is healthy and happy and doing well. It was wonderful to come home Sunday afternoon and we have been enjoying family time ever since. Justin has the week off from work and we are just getting used to all the wonderful, sleepless bliss of having a new baby. Mostly we fight over who gets to snuggle with her =) Karhu has taken her job as a furry big sister very seriously and is vigilantly guarding the house from any squirrels who might disturb her baby. It's so peaceful to be home.

Wow! She is beautiful and you guys look (and sound) fantastic. Finn and Leif can't wait to meet their new friend. We're going to head over your direction sometime in the next couple of weeks once you get a little more settled. Let us know if you need anything.
