Recent snow (but not very much) has added just the right Christmas feel to the world. It has also been very cold, so Maarit has been sad not to get outside very much. These pictures are from a warmer day a few weekends ago. I promised I would do better at updating in December, but that didn't happen. Our whole family had a lovely bout of sickness last week which caused mid-December to fly by in a blur. Now that we're all better it's hard to believe Christmas is a week away! We are really looking forward to some time to play and enjoy the holidays.

Yesterday friend Lindsey came to spread Christmas cheer. Maarit is now the proud owner of snugly deer (she loves deer) and an ornament that sings " I want a hippopotamus (she loves hippos) for christmas..." which she adores and insists on hearing over and over again.
Last weekend Maarit discovered Santa. She had recovered from her round of ickies, mom was in the process of ickies so missed seeing this event... and she was spending time with Daddy. She heard loud music and saw funny lights and they went to the window. Outside her house a firetruck pulling Santa's "sleigh" was stopped on the street. Santa (our local fire chief and neighbor) was on the back and he said "Hello to Mr. Mattson and his little one" and waved and sang a song! She waved to Santa and learned how to say Santa...."sah sah". This event left such an impression on her, she still keeps going to the window and waving and saying "Sah, sah" and signing 'please'. She now gets very excited when she sees any Santa figurine or picture. It's very fun! It's wonderful to see the joy of Christmas through her eyes....
