Last weekend was Friend Aiden's 2nd birthday. Maarit was overwhelmed by all the big kids on their bikes and scooters. Here she is watching the action from daddy's shoulders.

At Aiden's party she had her first experience with party hats, fun to look at- not fun to wear, and party favors that make noise. She brought one home with her and it has been a source of much joy!

Maarit's pumpkins: There are 3 huge ones and one baby one in her pumpkin patch. We're talking about a lot of pumpkin pie for her birthday folks!

Yesterday we went to the Wirtanen Pioneer Farm day. It is an old Finnish homestead carved out of the woods with incredible and beautiful old buildings a bachelor Finn made himself. There is a really awesome root cellar, saunas, barns and a house. You can explore the property and enter all of the buildings, the construction is so interesting. Every year in the fall there's a festival there with harvest veggies and activities and handmade crafts by local artists and neighbors. There are little chicks and ducks and bunnies for petting and lots of food. It's fun, especially for kids. There is a big plastic cow named Strawberry and she 'teaches' kids how to milk a cow and also how to say a lot of words in Finnish. Maarit tried her best to milk, she couldn't quite squeeze hard enough to get the milk out, but she earned this certificate for trying. The cow was her favorite part. She wasn't that into the bunnies or chicks, which we thought she'd like. Maybe next year. I think she's used to her lazy bones cat and dog who don't move when she mauls them.
