Without any pictures, because you really can't capture these moments on camera no matter how hard you try... these are recent reports from our lives with an almost one year old, the land of adorableness.
Maarit now insists on walking with us hold her hands...walking is really an understatement, it is really a cute version of baby running. Daddy's arms are not as long as mine so he gets pretty tired. It's super funny. She also insists on us holding her hands as she tries to 'walk' up the stairs like an adult. Her legs are not quite long enough, but just long enough that it is a very comical adventure.
Any time Maarit catches Mommy and Daddy kissing she laughs and makes lip smacking noises and then points at us. It's unbearably cute.
We've been having a lot of discussions regarding her first word/s. There are several that are emerging all at once. Justin and I agree that the most consistently used and most often directed to the actual 'person' is her version of Karhu... only it comes out "KAHheeeee" and is said with so much joy it's just awesome. Her second most often used word is "Dada" or "Di-yah" for daddy. She usually says Momma when she's sad, tired or in her sleep. She also says "HI!" very happily when people come into the room.
When she was smaller Justin and I would talk about what her first word would be, we thought then that it would probably be 'Karhu' since Karhu is her all time favorite in the whole world. We were supposed to go to the cities this weekend so Justin took Karhu to the kennel on Friday afternoon. All Friday evening Maarit asked for Karhu. She'd look around and say "Kaheee?" and hold her hands up in the 'I don't know' gesture. Unfortunately she didn't get to go to her cousin Chloe's party in the cities because she is not feeling well (a 3 hour nap yesterday, unheard of for her!) But she was so happy to see her Kaheee when Justin picked her up from the kennel. I think all we talk about these days is Kaheee. =)
Also sweet is her dancing, any time Maarit hears music of any kind or anything that could be confused with music she waves her arms in her little dance pose and she'll shake her butt if she's standing. So cute.
