Down the beach from our apartment is a little sandy area we call Swan Beach because of a small family of swans who live there. They do not seem in any hurry to leave for the colder months...maybe they will stay. We go to visit them often:

This picture should be after all the playground fun, but got out of order. Here is Maarit after we spent a whole day hiking along the fjord, up to the AMFI mall and to the NAV office to apply for her child benefits. She bought flowers for our dinner party that night and fell asleep holding them on the way home. It was adorable. (That is a tatoo on her cheek, she is very into the tatoos that grandma sent!)

I have to tell about this sweater... I bought it at the Freetex (like a Salvation Army) for about 30 nok (approx. $6) when I was out shopping with some girlfriends from work. I can not believe someone would have given it away. It is handmade, super-soft wool and just beautiful. It is one of my new favorite Norway finds. Her head gear is a pretty fun Norway thing too. That is made out of very soft cozy wool and it is one of those hat/neck-warmer/face-shield/head-bands. Lots of Norwegian kids wear them around and I have come to appreciate the many uses! It is made by a wool company in Norway, very good cold weather coziness.

One of my favorite signs...we pass this everyday just on the way to school. NO Google Translate...what do you think this sign means? Free lodging in Norway for any correct guesses! It is the 12 year old girl in me, but this sign makes me giggle everyday!

During our break we met up with some of our friends from school for a trip to the oil museum (which has really fun things for kids to play on and with) and then went to a little international fair in the main square in town. Here is Maarit with her favorite friend Rory from school.
The oil museum was having a lego activity all week. The kids were collaborating on a city. Maarit made a dinosaur museum (with "died-out dino bones") and added her museum to the lego city. I have never seen so many legos in my life!

Maarit catches a jellyfish on the fjord. These are not too stingy. They feel just like you would imagine..squishy and rubbery.
One day we went to the barnemuseum (children's museum) and played with all the fun toys. Here Maarit pretended to be a weather reporter and predicted that Norway will be "rainy!"
We had such a nice relaxing week off, but the whole time Maarit was wondering when she could go back to school. She was so happy to be back with her friends and her teachers this past week! I guess we're at the age where parents just don't cut it anymore! She is growing up so fast.
