International Labor Day Walk

I was away on a conference for school, so these pictures are being posted quite late. These are from our International Labor Day (May 1) walk from our house to the Hafrsfjord trail.  We were out hiking all day and Maarit hiked nearly the whole time. It was sunny and beautiful, the perfect weather for looking for flowers, shells and special rocks.

These are photos of the flower float Maarit created. She picked all of these for me and arranged them specially.  So beautiful.

And flowers we found on our hike.

Maarit enjoying the rock carvings of ancient ships.

These three stones are identified as a Viking Memorial, but it is unclear what they memorialize.

Remains of the Viking ship birth.

A picnic on top of a rock where there were cupped holes carved.  The purpose of the cup carvings is also unclear. It is possible they were used for offerings.

We discovered a new rock carving site.

And more beautiful flowers.

After exploring the Viking sites along Hafrsfjord, we headed back up the hill toward Stokka lake and Maarit demonstrated that she was not tired at all by running as fast as she could along the trail.

A woodland trail in Stokka.  Maarit decided that a troll left this dandelion chain in a tree for us. Thank you kind troll!

These funny guys are Justin's new favorite bird in Stavanger area.

I took this picture of a family of ducks just before I let go of the stroller (empty since Maarit hardly uses it at all) and accidentally let it roll down the hill into the lake.....oopps.    It was ok though!
