Although it has been bitterly cold this January, we have managed to have some fun, some super messes and some cute times cuddled up all together trying to stay warm.
Just before the huge cold snap we went for a quick snowshoe...Gus loved the snow and got some serious rosy cheeks from the howling wind.
One of our favorite meals is Daddy's spaghetti, Gus is getting to the age that he needs to do everything himself...especially feeding himself. So this is the spaghetti event!
Gus climbs on everything. Everything. He is an extremely busy little man and the more dangerous the better. I suppose if we kept track of his Danger Mouse activities, we could fill the whole side panel of the blog. He is interested in everything and he wants to go everywhere.

We are always surprise how tolerant our pets are, especially Karhu. She is so kind and gentle to Gus, but maybe that has more to do with the fact that he is her number one delicacy supply. This morning she got donuts...so I suppose a doggie ride is definitely worth a donut!
Here is Maarit, the best big sister in the world, taking one for the team. She helps us corral Gus in his playpen by jumping in and playing with him. Which usually means she gets smashed.
He is a world class sister smasher!
For further proof...here's Gus delivering a brutal kick to the head. Maarit is a good sport.
On our freezing cold days off of school Maarit and Daddy built cool things with legos. She wanted to save a picture of this creation. There's Gus in the background pulling the classic photo bomb face and everything!
Maarit and I spent a few days painting cool flowers on our entryway closet. It was fun to be creative together and challenging to keep Gus away from the paint brushes. Our entryway is much more welcoming with pretty flowers.
Although she wouldn't sit still for the picture, here is Maarit showing her second lost tooth. This one was a little more bloody than the first and it had to be yanked out...it had been loose for over a month!
Maarit and Gus love to walk around the house together. We were getting ready to go on a snowshoe around the lake this morning and they were so cute together though you can barely see their faces.
Snowshoeing on the lake is one of my most favorite family activities. Maarit is getting really good on her snowshoes and she started cross country ski lessons at Giant's Ridge. She is getting awesome at skiing too. By the end of this season, she will be a better skier than me, for sure.

This was our snowshoe picnic spot just near the mouth of the river that connects our part of Cedar Island lake to the main 'big' lake. It is a beautiful spot, there were animal tracks all over coming to the open water.

For his birthday, Gus got a music set. In the set was a wooden kazoo. No one else in the family can get the thing to play, but Gus is a kazoo natural. I loved his little hanging on the window, kazoo song.
Lots of fun in the freezing Northwoods these days!
