This post is full of pictures from the end of January through today, but not necessarily in chronological order. I am finding more difficulty making timely posts with two little ones busy at home. We have a lot of fun, and a lot of chasing Gus while still trying to do fun things with Maarit. It is busy, sometimes overwhelming, but I know there will be days in the future when I will miss these times.
Maarit joined the Youth Ski club at Giants Ridge. She has been having fun learning how to cross country ski with a group of beginners. She is very quick on her skis and will definitely be a better skier than me very soon! She missed a few Sundays here because of the bitter cold, but she is hoping to earn an 'olympic' medal for skiing this winter.
One of our cold weather escapes was visiting the Great Lakes Aquarium a few weekends ago. Gus loves to look at the fish up close. His favorite are the trout...just like his Uncles.
Just like all the other kids at the Aquarium, the Great Lakes shaped water table was a highlight.
We quickly had to remove him before he soaked the rest of the little ones at the table.
Sarah brought us back to one of her classrooms to visit the walking stick bugs. Maarit was thrilled to hold one. They were so amazing!
The first weekend of February, Maarit and I participated in the Girl Scout sleepover. She had so much fun with her troop and all the Girl Scouts from Mesabi East area. Here she is showing off her lovely nail polish and makeup that some of the bigger girls did for her. Yikes!
This is our little Troop #1806 Daisies. We have lots of fun together. I am learning how to be a troop leader and they are learning how to be Girl Scouts, it works well so far.
The sleepover activity was learning First Aid, Maarit was very proud to earn her First Aid kit and know that she can take care of us "if you get a cut with blood on it!"
Gus is starting to learn some words. His favorite word is "Hot"which he says very animatedly, "Haaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhht!" He lets us know that the heater is hot, but stove is hot, and the faucet is hot. He also says "Ki- Ka" for Kitty Cat to Harpur, Dah for Daddy and MumMum for Mommy. He has started to say "Dider" for Sister and we are having fun trying to get him to share more words.
The other night he saw a paint brush and was desperate to paint. He made such a cute picture with swirls and hand-prints. I loved it. His first painting!
And Daddy brought in some fresh snow to play in, that was super fun!
These pictures are from the end of January. Gus is usually an easy going guy, happy and smiley and fun...until he gets mad. When he gets mad, he gets really mad and his go to is to bam his head when he is angry. I can not understand this at all, but we did some reading and checking and apparently this is pretty common early toddler behavior for venting frustration when the struggle to communicate. Well, we try to protect agains the head banging , but we can't always catch it in time. The pictures are from the black-eye he gave himself from bamming his head. Here's to hoping he learns more words and grows out of this stage quickly!
The cold weather days we had at the end of January drove us to some pretty creative ways to entertain ourselves. Maarit and Gus enjoyed the laundry basket rides and Karhu was dressed up in some pretty silly costumes.
Maarit came up with some awesome costumes herself.
Gus...growing lots of teeth and being pretty cute with Daddy's glasses.
This past week was Winter Homecoming at Mesabi East. Maarit loved dressing up for America Day and Throwback/Old Fashioned Day. She looked so lovely in her bunade..the last time for it though, it was getting pretty tight.
Today she and her best pal Aiden were the Winter Homecoming Little Prince and Princess, they walked down the gym and delivered the votes for Kind and Queen. She was so excited about being the princess she could hardly contain herself all week. The night they were asked, she had to call Aiden to see if he was willing to be a Prince with her, it was her best phone conversation yet, I wish we had it on video.
