So far, March has been pretty eventful for our family. Last weekend the little ones went to Nana and Papa's and Justin and I Gus-proofed the stairwell. If you haven't yet seen it, our stairs were once open into the living room and the drop from the highest point was about 9 feet. Nana happened to see Gus one evening on FaceTime crawling up the stairs and sliding down on his belly. She strongly encouraged us to finally take care of the project. We had been talking about it for ages, but hadn't found the time to rip out the carpet and design something. It was time and we were so glad that she could take the kiddos while we worked on it. We were amazed at how much we could get done without our helpers.
Although I haven't yet taken pictures, it turned out awesome! Of course now Gus has no interest in going on the stairs. We figured that would happen, as soon as we make something safe for him, he moves on to being interested in something more dangerous. He has now decided that climbing up the kitchen chairs and getting on to the table is fun. Maybe we should get rid of our chairs? The little man is unstoppable. And fast. It takes him about 1.8 seconds to get from the floor to the tabletop where he then laughs at us uncontrollably. Safety is a joke, Gus laughs in the face of safety.
It is an adventure around here. This weekend we all suffered from an awful stomach flu. Gus came home ill from daycare and shared the love with all of us. We are still recovering. There is nothing worse than a whole family being sick at one time. Hopefully it is now over and we can move on to more fun things....like eating dog food.
We had to move Karhu's food out of reach because Gus figured out how to open the bin, take out the bag and nibble away on the tasty food. He loves it, he would eat dog food over most other foods, given the choice. I am not even sure what to think about that.
Maarit got a space gel ant farm for Christmas. When the weather finally reached above -20degrees we received our ants in the mail. We have had them for a few weeks and have enjoyed watching them tunnel and work. They have made a waste area, a graveyard and lots of tunnels. The gel is also food so they move it around a lot and congregate on the top where we assume they are eating.
Maarit has had tons of fun investigating the ants and watching them work. We are not sure how long they will live, but they have been very interesting.
Maarit and Gus always surprise us with their sweet brother and sister love. It is amazing to watch them together and now that Gus is walking and trying to talk more they play pretty well together. Maarit always watches out for him and loves to design toys and games for him. It is precious. The other night Gus came into our bed and not too long later (probably because he woke her up) she wandered in to our bed as well. When we woke up, this is how they were sleeping between us. Arms wrapped around each other in a brother sister snuggle. Just about breaks my heart it is so sweet.
