This May has slipped by in a flurry of packing and shipping our bags and belongings back to the United States. Justin has been coaching girl's soccer, which keeps him busy a few nights a week and gives me some Gus and Maarit time all to myself. We spend most of our time making art and gardening when the weather is nice. We get out on playground explorations and long walks most weekends when the rain is not pouring down!
Maarit has been a big girl this spring, she is practicing her reading and has very imaginative play. I love to sneak up to her when she is playing with her toys just to hear what stories she is inventing.
She has fully taken over choosing her own outfits each day. She comes up with some crazy, colorful outfits. She also likes to do her own hair, but she is not so into cleaning the chocolate frosting off her face.
Moving has been an adventure; we have nearly all of our personal and special things sent to Justin's parents so they can join all of our other worldly possessions. Biking the bags, suitcases and packages has been a huge project for Justin most weekends. Some of the ways he has managed to stuff the chariot bike stroller with bags have been quite comical.
Gus has loved all the outdoor time, especially since he has this adorable bear suit to wear. He has had teeter-totter and web-swing rides at the playgrounds and has enjoyed getting to play with his big sister.
His teeth, that were pushing through and have now receded a bit, have been bothering him, but he is pretty good natured about it. However, adding teething drool to the already huge amount of spit up from his reflux difficulties makes for an unbelievable amount of laundry. Good thing we are moving back to the land of affordable clothing, ours are all wearing out from too much washing!
He is a happy little man though; he is getting good at grabbing things and working on sitting up. He loves to sing and gurgle at us and he has just recently discovered that he can be LOUD! He has a lot of fun playing with the volume of his voice and yelling when he thinks he has been left alone.
He is not left alone very often, especially not when big sister is home. Maarit is an amazing big sister to Gus. She shares our time and attention much better than I imagined she would. It is wonderful to see her caring for him, rushing to help us get things for him and, especially, singing songs and talking to him whenever he needs comforting.
Gus and Maarit both enjoyed a sunny afternoon recently. Her outfit is a pink dance tutu over jester style cozy pants and a fancy shirt....she is one funky girl.
Everyday Maarit shares with us Signs of Spring that she sees. "Sign of Spring, Sign of Spring!" she declares over all the flowers, birds, worms, bugs and plant buds that we see. She is looking forward to summer in Minnesota, but for now we are enjoying our last spring in Norway.
