Our Christmas began with a short trip to the Twin Cities to see the Koch's and then Grandma and Grandpa. We had a lot of fun sledding with everyone and there will be pictures from some of the sledding adventures soon, they are on the other camera.... After we arrived home we quickly cleaned up, did some grocery shopping and last minute wrapping to get ready for our family Christmas.
Since Christmas is also Gus's birthday, we decided to celebrate our family Christmas on Christmas Eve, like the Norwegians do. We had our Christmas dinner and then gathered around to open family gifts together. Justin's mom and dad (Lorraine and Russ) joined us at our home for Christmas celebrations.
Due to Gus being mobile and very curious (read destructive), we had to have our tree up on a table this year. It was barely out of his reach, not that he didn't try his hardest to get to it everyday!
Poor guy, he isn't quite walking yet, but he is pulling himself up onto everything. This gate keeps him off the super dangerous open stairwell. He is not happy about the gate, it blocks him from his most favorite past time, super-dangerous-open-stairwell-climbing!
Maarit picked out a sweet little sled for Gus, here he is 'opening' his sled.
Nana Lorraine is still immobilized from her ice skating fall on Thanksgiving so she wasn't able to chase Gus quite as much as usual. Maarit passed out all the presents and did a great job reading all the names.
And she had the biggest pile of gifts!
Maarit got new snowshoes for Christmas! She was very excited and we tried them out on Christmas day!
After opening presents Christmas Eve we watched a christmas movie and had Norwegian risen grøt. Then we all went to bed to wait for Santa.
The next morning Santa had come to visit...even though Maarit says she knows he isn't real, he is fun to believe in. She and Gus were pretty tired out from the night before as this picture clearly shows! They were up at 5:30 Christmas morning, far too early for us, we had barely made coffee!
Here is Gus telling Papa all about Christmas.
Maarit and Gus had fun opening more presents Christmas morning!
The biggest hit was the ball pit Gus got from Santa, he and Maarit have spent quite a bit of time in the ball pit since yesterday!
Daddy picked out these cute Norwegian sweaters for us so we decided to take a few family pictures. My goodness these two babies are cute!
Merry Christmas to All!
