October in New Ulm is festival fun...Oktoberfests (2 weeks in a row!) and Homecoming parades. Justin finished up soccer and the kids enjoyed the Herman German Run and Halloween on State Street. In between we got to celebrate Maarit turning 8!
I always love Maarit's drawings, here is one of Gus playing baseball.
Gus loved meeting Herman the German at the kids run. He was especially excited that they were given capes to run in.
This picture is from one Monday morning when they both didn't want to get out of bed. This is how I found them snuggling. So precious!
Maarit had a Harry Potter themed birthday, complete with Hermione outfit and a feast on golden plates.
On her actual birthday we celebrated with a fun day in Mankato and more birthday cake.
Over MEA weekend we went to Two Harbors. It was an incredibly beautiful and sunny weekend on Lake Superior.
We hiked the Beaver River and found that the water was so high we couldn't cross in the usual places, but we did get a chance to climb all the rocks.
And, at Maarit's request, we spent a lot of time on the beaches, picking rocks, making sculptures and finding sea glass.
Maarit rescued this drift wood and had one boot so full of rocks she took it off to carry them back to the car.
We spent the weekend before Halloween with a visit from Grandma and Grandpa. We carved scary pumpkins...they were big and a lot of work to scoop the seed and cut through the thick rinds!
Our fall weather has been beautiful and warm, we have enjoyed many hikes in Flandreau State Park along the Cottonwood river.
State Street candy gathering on Halloween with our new friends was an intense experience. There were hundreds of people and most houses had lines for candy. The whole street was decked out with scary scenes set up in people's yards and elaborate costumes. The kids had lots of fun, but decided they could get more candy next year if they go to a quieter neighborhood.
