Father's Day and Friends

We have had a wonderful start to our summer filled with many fun visits with family and friends.  We started our summer in the Cities and had an opportunity to share happy news with my parents, brother and sister and Justin's sister and mom.  Maarit was proud to wear her 'Big Sister' shirt and tell her secret.

We headed to Two Harbors, where Maarit proceeded to get quite sick. She spent some time with the doctor and recovering with antibiotics and then were off to Michigan to visit Justin's grandmother.  Maarit had never been to Michigan and it was fun to show her some of Justin's favorite places near his grandmother's home.

Justin and Maarit shared a wonderful father's day.  They played at a very cool wooden park for ages, had a lovely outdoor lunch, and played on the beach.

Maarit enjoyed some superman ice cream....
and then ran off all the sugar.

After returning from Michigan we headed through the 100 year rainstorm in the Duluth/Two Harbors areas to the Range for a doctor's appointment with my previous prenatal caregiver.  We got to hear our baby's heartbeat, very exciting for all of us.
We planned to stay with our friends Craig and Merry and Aiden, but found the road completely washed away.... it was an interesting journey through the woods and around the Palo swamp finding a new path to the Johnson home.  Luckily they live on a hill and were not affected by the storm.

Maarit and Aiden spent 2 long and glorious days playing, and playing, and playing, and playing.  The first night we were there Maarit negotiated that we would stay 2 nights, but the first night did not count as one of the nights.  She's a crafty little girl.
She has also shared with us that "If I grow bigger then Aiden, I will just wait for him to grow big and then I will marry him...when we're both big."
Here they are playing their hearts out...

They also went fishing and for boat rides which was one of Maarit's highlights so far this summer.

We had such a great time and she is begging to go back to stay with Aiden again.  Since then, we have relaxed a bit in Two Harbors. Took some long hikes and played on the beaches.  Maarit has been into making Art and practicing her letters and working in 'workbooks'.  Today she found a stuffed bunny named Bunzo who is very soft and cuddly. She bought him for 'her baby'.  She will be the best big sister.

Last night we found this guy waiting for us on the step.
