Inventions, Celestial Objects and Gus Stinks

Maarit has always been very interested in art, building, crafts and creative activities of all kinds.  Recently her creative genius has gone to a whole new level.  It is difficult to keep track of her numerous inventions, so we decided to start taking pictures of them inorder to remember all the wonderful things she has designed -at age 4.  Ever so sweetly, many of her inventions are for her brother. 

Maarit created this toy for Gus, she did not name it, but the toy involved a battery (soaking in a 1/4 cup of water) inside a painted saft bottle and a plastic bag glued onto the bottle as, we think, a parachute. 

It was hard to get the specifics of what Gus was meant to do with the bottle, and we were also a bit concerned about the battery soaking in water.... so we redistributed this invention back to the recycling bins from whence it came.  Maarit is a notorious dumpster diver though, no recycling bin is safe with her around!


This toy was actually a clever game to teach Gus his colors, she painted or colored many different shades on cut pieces of paper, then put a single dot of the same color on another piece of paper.  He is meant to match the two colors that go together.  We saved this, although we did share with her that it will be a little while until he can accurately match colors.

This next invention is by far our favorite, and perhaps the most...interesting....we will say.   Maarit named this toy "Fuzz Touch for Gus".  As you can likely guess, the toy is for him to touch, much like a touch and feel book.  She took some wool, glued it to a painted bottle cap, then glued the cap onto a  crushed milk carton, that way it would be "easier for Gus to hold."

Honestly, the explosive art, crafting and designing and creating is a bit difficult to keep up with.  She is an incredibly prolific artist and inventor.  Every night after school every table in the house is usually full of some art project, invention or science experiment.  She has the most creative mind.


This photo is of the moon set outside our window this late winter.  It was a hauntingly large and bright moon.

Maarit now writes her name and my name on most of her pictures, although she also writes Dada and Gus on many pictures too. It is amazing to get pictures addressed specially to me.  I have to take pictures of many of them so we can reuse or recycle the paper. I do not think there would be a portfolio big enough to keep up with all of her creations otherwise.
