Going Under The Ground!

If you are a loyal blog reader and have checked out our pictures since we've moved into our new house,  you may have noticed, prominent in many photos, the nasty, stained carpet that hung out in our living room.  We are proud to say that it has now made its way to the dump where it belonged.  Justin spent a few days of our MEA break installing new flooring in our living room and making it a healthier, cleaner and much more beautiful space to be.
Here is Justin ripping out the carpet and Maarit and Gus watching.

Maarit helped build the new stair!

After 2 days of all-out floor remodel we headed up to Tower/Sudan on Saturday morning and visited the Soudan Mine State Park for its last open weekend of the season.  Maarit was excited to go Under The Ground!

Gus was excited about his cool hard hat.

Under The Ground!!! How cool.  We learned about the mine and its operations from the late 1800s to 1960s when it finally became too expensive to extract the iron ore manually.

In the deep dark mine, Gus decided it was a perfect place for a nap.  Maarit was not scared at all when they turned off the lights completely and we were under the ground in the dark...then they showed how a man working by candle light would see the mine, which is how they mined there for almost 30 years.
Wow!

Maarit was so very interested in the tour that here she is walking away with the tour group, completely leaving us behind.  She is so awesome! I love that her mind is interested in science, math, art and history.

It was warmer underground than above ground that day.  We came back to the surface and braved the rain and ice pellets for this mommy and babies picture.

On Saturday night Gus started pulling himself up on everything.  Here he is determined to watch some PBS Antiques Roadshow!  How fun. He is now a fast crawler and near constant stander. He is on his way to walking soon.

Gus has also discovered how to use the Ipad. He sees his sister use it frequently and he has decided that our animal sounds game is awesome. He likes the donkeys.  The app shows a photo of the animal and plays the sound. It is fun.

A short little video of the Goose-man crawling in his own super sleepy way.
